Thick green leaves with a slight gloss, cover 'Hogyoku' during the summer. This upright, vigorous tree comes into its own with the onset of autumn, when green gives way to rich pumpkin-orange foliage. It tolerates full sun easily, and responds well to pruning. This is a very old Japanese selection, that is part of a classic trio of Japanese Maples for planting near water (Hogyoku, Osakazuki and Ichigyoji)
