This cultivar once held the position as being the only upright columnar Japanese Maple in existence... at least until 'Tsukasa Silhouette' came along. 'Twombly's Red Sentinel' differs from 'Tsukasa' on several levels. Not as narrow as the latter, it covers itself in palmate red foliage that keeps its colour through the season. Winter twig colour is deep warm red.
