Cup-shaped, purple flowers up to 5 cm across, appear in spring before the leaves, followed by egg-shaped, edible, greenish-yellow fruit which matures in early fall to a dark brown.
Foliage: Large, slightly drooping, elliptical, rich green leaves become yellow in the fall. 
Landscaping Ideas:
Plant two varieties for pollination. Best planted in a native plant or wild garden, or grow in a shrub border. Also great in damp spots along ponds or streams.
