Flower:
Female catkins are green, male catkins are green becoming purple-yellow
Foliage: Dense, pyramidal habit when young, develops a rounded crown when mature. Leaves are narrowly ovate, serrated, dark green and turn bright yellow in the fall. Bark is shiny and yellow-grey, becoming more reddish brown with age. Twigs have a wintergreen scent when crushed.
