Insignificant, monoecious flowers. Male flowers are pendulous catkins and female flowers are on short spikes. Female flowers give way to rounded nuts which are similar to the pecan in texture and flavour. When ripened, they begin to fall to the ground and it is time to harvest. Usually by late September. |
Foliage: | Medium green foliage. Five lance-shaped leaflets on central stalk. Smooth, grey bark begins to exfoliate in long strips as the tree matures, giving it a shaggy appearance. |
