Bloom Time Late winter to early spring
Long, pendant, pale yellow male catkins dangle releasing clouds of pollen. Inconspicuous female flowers bloom just above the catkins in the form of tiny red tassels. These are followed by clusters of brown, edible nuts enclosed in a leafy, hairy, light green husk. Nuts ripen in late August and September.
Foliage: Medium green leaves, 10 cm long turn yellow in the fall.
