Cotinus coggyria 'Golden Spirit' is a smokebush cultivar that has unusual golden foliage. If allowed to grow unpruned, this deciduous, multi-stemmed shrub may produce airy spent flower panicles that resemble puffs of smoke in summer. If a more compact plant with larger leaves is desired, prune hard to within 30 cm of the ground in spring; however, this sacrifices the 'smoke'.
