This tender perennial bulb from South Africa makes a bold statement in the garden with its broad rosette of deep bronze foliage. Tall heads of rosy purple buds open to pink flower in late summer and early fall. Adventurous gardeners in Zone 7 wishing to grow this outside year round should plant the bulbs in a warm, sheltered site such as against a south wall or foundation, at least 12 cm deep, and cover with a thick layer of mulch. Otherwise, lift bulbs in late fall for winter storage (dry peat).
