'Blue Wave' is a tried and true selection of Bigleaf Hydrangea that dates back to 1904. Its broad flat flower umbels can reach over 20 cm across, and are made up of a froth of tiny fertile lacy flowers, surrounded by many larger sterile florets. This shrub is a vigorous grower, and blooms on old wood. 'Blue Wave' was originally introduced as Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mariesii Perfecta'
