This cultivar of Hydrangea macrophylla has become the standard for blue mophead hydrangeas. In acid soil conditions it can be counted on to produce large 15 cm wide heads packed with sky blue florets. 'Nikko Blue' originated in Japan, and has been a classic plant in western gardens since before 1970.
