This moderately sized deciduous tree is commonly known as the Golden Rain tree. Although native to northern China and Korea, it has had a place in western gardens since before the American Revolution. In early to mid Summer, the tree bears large terminal panicles of yellow flowers. These eventually fall to the ground, giving way to unusual inflated rusty seed pods that resemble Chinese Lanterns.
