'Galaxy' is a spectacular sight when in full bloom. Tall, deep purple buds cover the tree late in spring, and turn into fragrant rose pink flowers, 15 to 30 cm across, once opened. 'Galaxy' blooms 2 to 3 weeks later than most other Spring Magnolias, so the flowers are more likely to escape damage by late frosts. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal
