This little gem is a native of the west coast of North America, from Alaska to California, where it clings to coastal cliffs, and alpine ridges. The glossy green foliage hugs the ground, and turns burgundy red in times of drought or cold weather. In summer it erupts into a cheery carpet of bright yellow flowers, much loved by bees and butterflies.
