There are few trees that are able to catch the eye through all four seasons, and this is one of the best! The Japanese Stewartia is a small tree or large shrub that is a sight to behold in all seasons. Newly emerging foliage is light green, and darkens through summer, when elegant cup-shaped white flowers with golden centres cover the tree. With the onset of autumn, the foliage catches fire, in tones of orange red and burgundy. Its strikingly multicoloured exfoliating bark keeps the interest going through all seasons. It is a worthy recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit
