The Japanese Zelkova is a close relative of our beloved American Elm, but without the problems of Dutch Elm Disease. 'Village Green' was selected for its excellent growth rate and attractive vase shaped silhouette. This newcomer has dark green serrated leaves, and smooth grey bark, which exfoliates with age, to display orange brown inner bark. This tree is untroubled by disease, growing into a fine shade tree over time. This tree is also frequently a subject for bonsai work.
